These high school sweethearts came back to their old stomping grounds in downtown Valparaiso, Indiana for their engagement photos. We found some of the most perfect spots within walking distance of the courthouse. This location was special to Steven and Abigail because they are high school sweethearts from Valpo. They have been together for 9 years! They had been a part of their church’s youth group for over a year and had passed each other in the halls of our high school.

High School Sweethearts

Steven refused to say hi because he was too nervous but Abigail says she never passed the opportunity to wave at him. Steven and Abigail went on a retreat together and Abigail was determined to make him talk to her. She said it was “because I was so confused how he was unable to say hi to me in the hallway.” Steven had an empty seat by him on the bus to retreat so Abigail put her bag down next to him and listened to him ironically belt “Sweatshirt” by Jacob Sartorius. They became inseparable friends after that. Abgail said, “I was dating someone at the time and Steven became one of my best friends. He was very patient and waited until we broke up a few months later then we finally went on our first date to a bowling alley.”

A proposal at Oliver Winery

Steven proposed a few days before their anniversary. He told Abigail that his parents would be coming for the weekend and they would be going to Oliver Winery to meet them. So they got dressed up and went and when they showed up Abigail & Steven sat for a second just him and her before he proposed. Abigail described the experience by saying, “I turned around and not only was his family there but he also had mine there! It was wonderful we got to spend some time just me, him, and our families celebrating that moment. We then went to dinner and he had brought my friends in from out of town to surprise me and also celebrate us!”
