When Halle & Ryan started planning their engagement session, they knew they wanted a location that felt personal to their story. Since the two met in college through mutual friends, returning to Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, felt like the perfect choice. As an Indianapolis engagement photographer, we love when couples choose locations that have meaning to them, and this Butler University engagement session was especially sweet for that reason.

An organic love story

Halle & Ryan’s story started the way some of the best love stories do: pretty organically. They met through mutual friends while they were in college, but when we asked them about their first date, neither could really pinpoint one specific moment. There wasn’t a big, official “first date” so much as their relationship naturally unfolding from spending time together and getting to know each other. Before they knew it, they had gone from mutual friends to something much more.

And then came the proposal! Ryan popped the question on the very first day of a vacation in Jamaica, completely catching Halle off guard. She had no idea a proposal was coming that day, which made getting to start their vacation with such a huge milestone even more special. We’re pretty sure the rest of the trip was hard to top after that.

A meaningful location

We spent the evening wandering through the beautiful Holcomb Gardens, one of Butler University’s most recognizable outdoor spaces. The Gardens have long been a favorite location for engagement photography and portraits, making them a beautiful setting for couples looking for natural, romantic Indianapolis engagement photos.

Halle & Ryan also brought along their sweet pup, which made their Indiana engagement photography session feel even more personal. We captured a mix of candid moments, playful interactions, romantic portraits, and plenty of genuine laughter through both photography and video.

As the evening came to an end, we were treated to an incredible sunset that made the entire session feel even more magical. Between the meaningful location, their adorable pup, and the gorgeous golden light, this Butler University engagement session was such a beautiful reflection of Halle & Ryan’s relationship.
