A summer wedding at their family’s property in Winamac, Indiana, where they individually got ready with their closest friends before they shared in their private first look moment followed by a butterfly release at their wedding ceremony for those who could not be with them that day, then ending the night at the Knights of Columbus with good food, tear-jerking speeches, the best company, and plenty of dancing—this was Stephanie & Dalton’s special day.
The true definition of high school sweethearts.
Stephanie & Dalton met in high school. He was a freshman and she was a sophomore. They actually started talking after a church retreat. Parker, their best man, joked in his speech at their reception about how Stephanie, a sophomore, had decided to hit on “the freshman at church camp,” and the rest was history. These two have grown up together, gone off to their respective colleges, and stayed together through thick and thin–this is the true definition of high school sweethearts.
According to Stephanie, “the proposal was a complete surprise. He knew I wanted to know nothing about it.” She told us how they were going out to dinner with my family in June and her brother asked if they wanted their picture taken on the back deck before they left. Stephanie & Dalton went out, took their picture, and as Stephanie was walking to her brother to see if it was an okay photo, he said “no it’s not good, let’s retake it.” At that moment, Stephanie turned around and Dalton was down on a knee. She said, “it was honestly better than I could have dreamed. I was in absolute shock and he picked out the ring all on his own and I love it.”

Their wedding began like this: Stephanie, in tears having walked down the aisle towards her soon to be husband, gave a speech. Choking back so much emotion, she said, “So before we start today, Dalton and I would like to thank everybody for coming. There is someone that is very near and dear to our heart who could not be here with us today. Haley is watching with the best seat in the house, but we wanted her presence to be with us here today as it was her goal to be out of the hospital and here with us today.” At this time the officiant handed Stephanie and Dalton a small white box. She continued, “Dalton and I will be releasing butterflies in her memory.”
In that moment, Stephanie & Dalton opened the small white box to have butterflies flutter out around them and surrounding their guests. The gorgeous display of beautiful monarchs reminded everyone of the loved ones that could not be with them today, especially Haley, as they fluttered into the wind, onto peoples’ shoulders, and around the ceremony site. As the ceremony continued, butterflies would join in the festivities with quick passes and hover between the guests as a constant reminder of those we all love and miss.
After their heartfelt ceremony, Stephanie, Dalton, and their guests traveled to the Knights of Columbus in Winamac, Indiana, for their final reception celebration. They were greeted with amazing cake and cupcakes, lots of dancing, and good company. Stephanie & Dalton danced the night away.
