Taking photos of family is such an amazing experience! I am so honored to have had the opportunity to do engagement photos for my sister, Melissa, and her fiancé, Garrett. We met at one of my favorite locations in Logansport—France Park. They brought along their pup Memphis for some shots at the beginning of the session too, and all-in-all we just had a great time documenting their recent engagement.
Engaged in the Bahamas (and we knew before it happened)!
Writing a blog post about my sister and her fiance is so fun because while we truly like to treat our clients like family, these two are family! And I actually knew about the engagement before Melissa did. Before leaving for their Bahamas trip earlier this year, Garrett informed Mom and Dad of his plans to ask her to marry him during their stay. While my Dad kept this a secret and didn’t let anyone know, my Mom just couldn’t contain her excitement of what was to come so she shared it with me–the older sister that she knew wouldn’t tell a soul (besides my husband of course, haha).
Once Melissa & Garrett left for their trip, I waited with bated breath for that text message to the family group chat that I knew would soon come. A couple of days went by and I couldn’t believe that Garrett was waiting to ask her (we all thought for sure he’d do it on day one)! Then finally, the pictures came: Live photos that Melissa took after the proposal on the beach during sunset of her holding out her hand with bleary eyes. The funny thing about Live Photos is that we could play a little video snapshot of the moment and hear Melissa say, “I bet they can all tell I’ve been crying!” Haha, and we sure could.
After many “oh my gods!” and “congratulations” from family, we left them alone to enjoy the rest of their Bahamas vacation. However, as soon as they got home we all peppered them with questions during a family dinner about how it happened. Apparently, Melissa thought for sure during a few nights at the beginning of the trip that he was going to propose. She just had a feeling. But then… he didn’t. Until finally on a night when she was actually not expecting anything special to happen, he asked her to take a panorama picture on her phone of the sunset while on the beach. While taking the photo she turned and saw him down on one knee! And, we know the rest.
We’ll be attending Melissa and Garrett’s destination wedding in September!!
Typically this is when we’d tell you about the details of their upcoming wedding and how we’re planning on working with them to capture it, but since Melissa is my sister I’ll actually be in attendance for this one as a bridesmaid rather than working! We can’t wait for all of the beachy Florida vibes with colors like tan, champagne, and dusty blue! They will be getting married this fall at Grace River Island Resort in Fort Myers, Florida. We know that they are counting the days that all of us can all get together while they finally say their forever vows.
