A beautiful summer day at New Journey Farms in Lafayette, Indiana spent getting ready with their bridal party, sharing an intimate first touch moment around a door, then finally seeing each other and saying their precious vows in front of their closest family and friends, and finishing off the night with dinner, amazing speeches, tons of dancing on their first night together as husband and wife—this was Kacie & Alex’s special day.
We have had the pleasure of taking numerous photos for Kacie & Alex prior to their wedding, besides their complimentary engagement session which came with their wedding package, we actually did a previous holiday session before they were even engaged. We love that we have clients returning to us again and again to document their special days.
They’ve known each other since they were little
Alex and Kacie told us that they have known each other since they were little. They had mutual friends and hung out in groups together but were never very close until they were both in high school. Kacie said, “I had went through a break up and he could tell I needed a friend and a good laugh. He would find me in the hallway just about every day to scare me on the way to the lunch line.” Alex had gotten Kacie’s phone numbers just to check up on her, and then slowly they started hanging out as just friends.
Their first date was to the drive-in theater to see “Fast and Furious.” They told us that after that they “just connected and realized quickly we were best friends and felt so comfortable with one another!” Kacie and Alex waited close to a year before they “officially” started calling it dating, but then here we are 8 years later finally tying the knot!
Alex proposed on Christmas Day at Kacie’s family Christmas. He knew how much her family meant to her and how special it would be to have her grandparents apart of it. He actually had to leave the house that morning because he was so nervous and made an excuse that he had to go to the family campground for something. Kacie said, “I never thought much of it. When he got home to pick me up he said he took a quick shot of whiskey to help with the nerves. He isn’t much a drinker so that shows how nervous he was.” See their engagement pictures here.
They chose to do a first touch instead of a first look
Although we love first looks from a photography and videography stand point, we also love the unique and intimate moment that two can share when doing a simply “first touch” instead. What this entailed for Kacie & Alex was standing back to back against a door at their venue. They then reached around the corner to hold hands and read letters from one another. Even though they could not see each other, the moment was so precious and intimate. It made them both burst with anticipation as they waited to see each other when walking down the aisle.
Their ceremony was outdoors in the full sun. They enjoyed a special sand ceremony, said their vows, exchanged rings, and finally sealed the long awaited deal with a kiss. Kacie & Alex then rushed back down the aisle ready to party the night away as husband and wife.
Though their reception followed shortly after, we were so grateful for the timing of everything. Within minutes of doing their grand entrance if began to down pour outside. Whether you believe in faith, fate, destiny, etc. either way, the universe seemed to be working in their favorite and providing them with everything they needed right at the most perfect moments. They ate great food, had amazing people speak heartfelt words about them, and then danced away the night with the best DJ amping everyone up.
