There’s something extra special about photographing people you’ve known forever. I’ve known the Hettinger family since I was just a little girl, so when Taylor reached out about doing a photo session with her pups, I was already over the moon. As we talked through her vision, I couldn’t help but suggest, “Why not bring the whole family along and turn it into a family photo shoot, too?” I’m so glad she did. It was the perfect excuse to gather everyone together and freeze these sweet moments in time.
The session itself was filled with laughter, stories, and plenty of puppy snuggles. The dogs did wonderfully—though Kiwi was quite convinced the birds in the area needed her full attention! We strolled from one beautiful backdrop to another, chatting as we walked, catching up on life, and sharing in the joy of simply being together. It didn’t feel rushed or forced—it felt like time well spent with people I’ve cherished for years.
Sessions like this remind me why I do what I do. Family has always been at the heart of everything for me, both in my personal life and in my business. As a mom myself, my days are often chaotic, full of giggles, messes, and endless love. That messy-beautiful rhythm of family life makes me appreciate even more the importance of pausing to document it all. Photos become little anchors, holding onto the memories we don’t want to slip away.
Looking back at these images of the Hettingers, I’m reminded of my own childhood memories with them, and I feel grateful that I get to help preserve their story now. That’s the true gift of this work—not just taking photos, but capturing connections, history, and love that lasts.
