McKenzie & Kristin’s wedding day at Lighthouse Lodge in Monticello, Indiana, started out with a little drizzle but wound up being the best way to kick off pride month for these two beautiful women. They got into their dresses in their separate rooms at the lodge with the help of friends and family before having their first looks under the trees near the lake. Later they walk down the aisle at their outdoor ceremony site and followed up the night with dinner, amazing speeches, and tons of dancing to end their first evening together as an officially married couple.
They met right before lockdown
During their initial meeting with us we took some time to get to know McKenzie & Kristin’s love story. McKenzie told us, “We met when I was living down in Bloomington and she was living in Brownsburg in February of 2020 right before lockdown.” Having an special partner throughout the pandemic made their relationship grow stronger which was evident even to the friends and family who spoke of this at their wedding during speeches.
Their story goes on as they dated for 2.5 years before McKenzie proposed to Kristin in Chicago when they were on a weekend trip to see the musical “Wicked.” It was October of 2022 and she shared that it was a great weekend! McKenzie asked Kristin to marry her on one of the balconies at Shedd Aquarium.
Surrounded by amazing friends
On their wedding day it became very evident how wonderful McKenzie & Kristin’s friends were. They all shared in loving on both of these girls and ensuring that their wedding day was nothing short of spectacular. As wedding photographers and videographers we see our fair share of amazing friends and family, but the group that surrounded McKenzie & Kristin encapsulated what it truly means to support one another.
For example, while waiting for these two girls to walk down the aisle, McKenzie & Kristin’s octagonal backdrop began to sway in the wind and fall down. Without missing a beat a crowd of friends and family joined in ensuring that it was stable and that the fabric draped around it was beautiful yet held up. Something so small yet so sweet makes a huge impact on wedding days–especially when these were “normal guests” that didn’t have to step in in this way. It truly warms our heart to see such caring people showing up for those getting married.
