Wedding trends come and go. While it’s fun to incorporate some trendy elements and unique things into your wedding, we encourage our couples to keep a balance of what’s hip and cool with what’s timeless and won’t make you cringe to look at in 10 years.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wedding trends, but it’s important to keep in mind that they come and go. While one wedding trend you’re seeing others do now might be cool and hip, you’ll want to keep in mind that later on (maybe even within the next year) something else will be the new cool thing to do. When you look back on your wedding 10 years down the road you will want to remember all of the amazing moments without cringing at the trendy little things you did because of the times.
No matter what you decide, keep in mind that a little can go a long way. While its fun to tie in some trends and unique things into your wedding that show off your personality, you may also want to balance it out with including some timeless elements as well. Below are a few different ideas for you! You can either go all out with the timeless details or just incorporate in a few different ideas.
Natural Elements
Nature is always a classic! Think real flower centerpieces, tons of greenery, outdoor photos, etc. There will always be nature so focusing on incorporating nature into your wedding day will ensure a classic feel that will last the test of time. This will keep your wedding photos and videos looking timeless and classic.
Neutral Colors
Greys, tans, blacks, and whites.—when it comes to your wedding color palette, nothing is more timeless than neutral colors! Adding small pops of color can add interest to your wedding day, but to ensure a timeless look we recommend centralizing your wedding theme around neutral colors first.
Basic wedding invites
Trust us when we say that basic isn’t a bad thing. Clean and crisp white invitations set the tone for your wedding. You can think of ideas like simple laser cut details, basic floral graphics, or splotches of watercolor. The best wedding invites keep focus on typography.
A Simple Altar
Our absolutely favorite wedding “altar” is in front of a large sprawling tree. A simple setting is sometimes the best background for a ceremony site. Minimal draping and a beautiful natural and white altar are all you need to achieve a classic wedding ceremony setting.
White Wedding Cakes
Basic wedding cakes will always be timeless and classic! When you picture a wedding cake, you more than likely picture a muti-tier white cake. You can add in fresh flowers that match your wedding theme and a topper with some personalization, but a simple white wedding cake will always be in style!
Romantic lighting
Even as the sun sets, having good lighting will ensure your wedding night can be captured in an authentic and timeless way. Stringing twinkling lights is one of our favorite things that we have seen at weddings (and makes for some amazing photos and videos). They really elevate a space to look more elegant. Candles are also a timeless must have.
Authentic Photographs
Choose a photographer with a classic and authentic editing style. With so many amazing photographers out there now days, and so many different editing tools and styles, there can be so many different vibes to your photos. While each artistic approach to your wedding photos can serve a purpose, keep in mind the trendiness of a certain edit when selecting your photographer. You don’t want to look back in 10 years and wonder why your photos don’t hold up the test of time.
TIMELESS DOES NOT MEAN NO PERSONALITY
A timeless wedding could be one filled with neutral colors and clean classic looks, but that also doesn’t mean that you can’t incorporate elements of your personality into your special day. When we think of timeless we think of a wedding that wholey encompasses what it means for you and your fiancé to be getting married—if this means adding in lots of color, your love of Star Wars, or pictures with your dogs then by all means please do so! We encourage our couples to focus on timeless elements and bring in bits of personality along the way.
