We met the VanSickle family on their personal residence in Winamac, Indiana. It was a gloomy day, but thankfully we were able to sneak in their family session between the clouds and actually get some nice weather here and there. They had an amazing vintage truck that was a shared family heirloom.
We love incorporating personal elements into photo sessions. When the VanSickle family mentioned having a truck that has been restored and passed between family members I was thrilled to include it in some photos. From posing on the truck bed to standing in front to using it in the background, this family heirloom will be a sentimental part of these photos captured forever.
Photographers have a superpower—we can freeze time! Families grow and change so fast, but yearly photos capture changes in our lives. They capture who you are at this point in time. Too often we can forget about our past. We can forget how cute our children were when they were little and before you know it they are off to college or getting married and having children of their own. It is important to document their growth and how our families have changed. Photos can freeze these moments of growth and document each step of change. This is why it’s important to get family photos every year. (Read more in our blog post called “5 Reasons to get Family Photos Every Year.”
