McKenzie & Nate had a beautiful wedding at The Barn at Sioux-Monti just outside of Monticello, Indiana. They got ready in the bridal suite on site and spent time with friends and family before their ceremony. After a touching first look under a beautiful tree and tons of fun pictures, they began their outdoor ceremony surrounded by those they cared about most. At sunset, they continued to celebrated their marriage by partying in the barn, eating good food, cutting their cake, and dancing the night away as husband and wife. This was McKenzie & Nate’s special day.
High School Sweethearts
Before we even meet with our couples to discuss their wedding day we find that it is super important to get to know them on a more meaningful level. We value our relationships with clients over everything else–we want to get to know you more and truly become friends for life. So, one of the first things we do when chatting over email is send our couples a questionnaire. This is full of fun questions that share more about how you met, how you got engaged, etc. These are some of McKenzie & Nate’s answers.
McKenzie told us, “Nate and I go back years. We are high school sweethearts! I was a freshman and he was a sophomore we decided to go to homecoming together and the rest has been history.” We find that we are drawn to high school sweethearts; we do a lot of weddings for couples who have been together for many years. And we find that these love stories really showcase how ever changing and impactful meaningful relationships can be. That’s not to say that they don’t come with hardships. McKenzie went on, “Nate and I have had our fair share of difficulties with family relationships but ultimately that has brought us closer together, taught us the value of love, and commitment to one another.”

Finally married after 8 years
When we asked McKenzie what she was most excited about for her wedding she said, “I am most excited about FINALLY being married! (especially after 8 years) As well as to see the day play out with all of the people we love around us.” Throughout their day you could feel the joy that these two shared and the excitement that they had for their future. After so many years together, it feel time to finally seal the deal.
They chose a casual wedding them of rustic with a bit of chic. We love barn weddings, but we especially love when couples add their own flare to the typical barn look. For McKenzie & Nate this mean having some classical and chic elements like McKenzie’s sleek dress and the pearl accents everywhere. They chose colors like burgundy with hints of dusty rose and mauve. Lots of greenery and white were also important to them in order to keep the classic and chic look. McKenzie & Nate told us specifically that they were excited for their wedding to be very laid back, kind of like a back yard wedding, full of fun with family and friends, and that’s exactly what they got.
McKenzie & Nate chose to start their day with a First Look. We love First Looks and have written many blog posts about why they can be an amazing part of any wedding day. If you’re not familiar with what a First Look is—it’s a chance for you and your husband to see each other before your official wedding ceremony! It’s that magical moment when your soon-to-be husband first sets eyes on you, the beloved bride, and both your emotions come rushing out. As photographers and videographers we’ve orchestrated our fair share of First Look moments, and McKenzie & Nate’s was simply perfect.
