I wish there was a better term to use instead of just “photographers.” You know that we’re a photography and videography team, but we’re also memory keeping experts of all kinds. Photographer just doesn’t seem like an all encompassing word for us. Our job is to contain the essence of what is you and bottle it into a perfect photo or memorable video that can last a lifetime. So, while we focus on documenting you and your family with beautiful photos and videos, we love helping anyone document their memories in whatever way possible.
That all to say, finding this passion didn’t just happen over night. We’ve developed a love for photography and videography through time. And we haven’t always called ourselves photographers. This started as something of a hobby and has grown so much into who we are today. Why we became photographers must first start with why we became videographers.
LVP Studios (previously known as Lang Videography) started in 2018 around the time when we, ourselves, got engaged. We began the process of looking into wedding videography options and quickly realized that this was something we were passionate about doing too. We had the beginnings of video equipment already because we had been vlogging our lives on YouTube since 2016.
So let’s back track to the beginning and talk first about YouTube. Within a matter of a few months after we started dating, I (Danyell) had the great idea to start documenting our lives via YouTube. This was something that I was passionate about and interested in doing because I thought that it would be a great way for us to keep in touch with my family while we were in Kansas and they were in Indiana. Through YouTube, we began to fall in love with documenting things with video, with editing together footage, and in creating stories that showcased important moments in our lives and the lives of others.
The first wedding we every worked was for a family friend making no more than $100. Because of our camera equipment that we had acquired during our time making YouTube videos, a friend asked us in passing if we’d ever thought about filming weddings. At the time we kind of just laughed it off and paid no mind to their request, but then after probably only an hour of contemplating the idea we said “Sure! Let us do your wedding.” It was so fun, a major learning experience, and started our passion for capturing others’ precious memories. We booked only a few more weddings in the summer, but kept dreaming of growing this into a business.
It all started with a few weddings filmed on an awful point and shoot camera. We were only offering videography and were learning by live trial and error–huge thank you to all of those couples that were willing to try something new with us.
Most beginning stories that we see in this industry share how they’ve had a camera in their hand since they were a toddler or tell some grand story about their love for creating movies in high school, but that wasn’t it for us. We weren’t interested in videography or photography professionally until the idea literally fell onto our laps by an engaged friend who wanted a wedding video.
We went to school for entirely different things than what we’re doing now. Danyell graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Informatics. While Trevor got his degree in Kansas for Software Programming. Needless to say, we’re both very techy people and expected to work our entire lives behind a desk looking at code and databases. However, memory keeping has always been a passion of ours, especially mine (Danyell).
The thing is, we keep saying that we never imagined being photographers or videographers, but once the opportunity presented itself we realized we couldn’t walk away. This aligned so well with our passion for documenting our lives, with our interested in tech and camera gear, and with our love for helping others commemorate the important moments and milestones. So, why we became photographers is because the request made by that one friend long ago, but why we continued to stay photographers is because of our passion for memory keeping.
You probably see this statement all over our website. It’s our motto, our mission statement, and what keeps us going. As photographers and videographers we want to help you commemorate your life’s important milestones with beautiful photos and videos. We’ve been collectively creating video and photo media of differing styles for over 5 years now. From quirky and literally LOLing, to romantic and slow-mo worthy, we want to ensure you that we capture these memories with your attitude in mind. The digital memories that we create have always been as a means to hold a moment in time–something you can review for years and years to come.
We have helped numerous couples, families, new mothers, and more capture their story that they can cherish for a lifetime. We ensure you that we capture the memories of your special day with your legacy in mind. Our job is to contain the essence of what is you and bottle it into a video and photo gallery that can last a lifetime.
