A chilly summer morning spent getting ready at home, then traveling to a bright and beautiful ceremony location at Avalon Manor Banquet Center in Merrillville, Indiana, followed by a reception with amazing speeches and tears of laughter, and finally finishing off the night with an epic band, the best cake ever, and tons of dancing—this was Kaycie & Brad’s special day.
The sandwich artist and the firefighter.
Brad and Kaycie met at her work. Kaycie is a manager at the Beecher, Illinois Subway, and she says that Brad would come in for food all of the time. They began to small talk and slowly get to know each other with each new visit into Kaycie’s work. Then one day, Brad invited Kaycie to workout with him, and she did (according to her “even though I was so out of shape! haha.”)
Subway and working out was just the start. After that they continued talking and eventually went out for dinner. Kaycie says, “We took things pretty slow because we both have daughters from previous relationships. Once we became more serious, we started hanging out all together.” It was obvious as I began to get to know Kaycie & Brad and their family more that their girls got along great. They enjoyed spending days together and that made dating so much easier for Kaycie & Brad. “Ever since then, we’ve become a family.”
Brad proposed to Kaycie on December 8, 2018. They had went downtown to see all the lights strung up for Christmas and got a hotel for the night. Brad surprised Kaycie and proposed in the hotel room right before they went to dinner. It was perfect, private, and everything they both wanted. Afterwards they of course went for dinner and drinks to celebrate!
COVID made it feel like this wedding would never come, but their love persevered.
Kaycie & Brad had scheduled this day numerous time. They had changed locations, switched venues, and re-planned their wedding over and over again. Unfortunately, this has been the reality for a lot of brides this past year, but we are constantly impressed and overcome with joy to see so many weddings continuing. Like other couples, Kaycie & Brad’s love persevered and the planning continued. They were determined to get married.
When I first talked with Kaycie earlier in 2020, she told me that she was most nervous about seeing her dad for the first time, as well as, seeing Brad for the first time when she walk down the aisle, but she described it as a good nervous! “Having my dad walk me down the aisle and seeing my future husband for the first time gives me so much excitement and butterflies in my stomach.” She was also nervous about how COVID was affecting her big day, but thankfully all went well. Those who felt the need wore a mask, vendors were well aware of regulations, and the venue was very prepared and respectful of everything going on.
A wedding ceremony that made everyone cry.
After a Unity Sand pouring during the wedding ceremony, Brad hugged his daughter Lilly while Kaycie hugged her daughter Makenna, then Kaycie & Brad went to hug while the girls shared a hug together. This moment was them officially becoming a family, mixing the sands of both of their individual families to become husband and wife, sister and sister. It brought the entire room to tears including us, the photographer, and anyone else around to witness this amazing joining.
This now family of four is the most special thing and being able to witness this and be a part of officially bringing Kaycie & Brad together as one was an emotional event for everyone. These four are loved by so many and we are so beyond happy for you!
