A windy day at their home in Elwood, Indiana spent getting ready for their wedding in their own farm house home and walking down the aisle set up in their backyard surrounded by their closest friends and family, and then finishing off the night with good food, cupcakes and cake, and the amazing company of all those they cared about—this was Jennifer & Shawn’s special day.
“Little did I know that they would send you out”
Jennifer & Shawn met over 7 years ago. He works for the gas company and was sent to turn on Jennifer’s service. In her vows on her wedding day she said, “I came home from work to find that I needed my gas turned back on because they had put a new meter in. Little did I know that they would send you out—my future husband, my best friend, and my life would be knocking on my door.” And as you all know, the rest is history.
When we asked about their proposal they said, “No proposal. We have both agreed over the course of our relationship to get married.” While we often love to hear a good proposal story, I think that the beauty of a relationship that is strong enough to come to a joint decision without any grand display of love, over the top proposal, or unnecessary bent knees shows just how sure Jennifer & Shawn are in their relationship.
We did however, do some engagement photos for this lovely couple in early December last year. We went out to the Tippecanoe River State Park in Winamac, Indiana where we spent an early sunrise morning at the Nature Center taking fun (yet cold) engagement pictures. You can read more about their engagement session and see their pictures here.
A wedding his parents would have been proud to see.
Sentimental items like chairs reserved in memory of Shawn’s late parents in the front row of their ceremony reminded you of the love Shawn shared for his family and emphasized how proud they would have been for him right now. Shawn’s brother, and his best man, gave a speech at the reception and said, “My parents aren’t here in person, but they are in spirit. And I could tell you, they’d be very proud.”
Jennifer & Shawn shared a first look before their ceremony. On the backside of their barn, Shawn waited patiently for Jenny to walk around the corner and tap him on the shoulder. Turning around to see her for the first time that day made them both laugh with joy.
Later when she walked down the aisle with her brother by her side in their own backyard, Jennifer & Shawn met again under a beautifully decorated arch. The ceremony was filled with loving moments, prayers, and vows. The girls carried bouquets of sunflowers and covered their shoulders in denim jackets. The men wore khaki vests, light colored dress shirts, and denim pants. And finally, Jennifer & Shawn shared a kiss to seal their relationship and finally walk away as husband and wife.
Good things come to those who wait.
Their reception (also held in their backyard) was under a white tent decorated with sunflowers, rustic charm, burlap, and personal elements to represent Jennifer & Shawn. There was no grand entrance, and the rest of the evening was a relaxed celebration of the joining of these two lovers after many years. Jennifer & Shawn even wound up changing out of their wedding attire into casual clothes in order to party the night away in comfort with their friends and family.
If one thing is for sure, Jennifer & Shawn’s first day as husband and wife was met with loads of laughter, hugs from plenty of family, and tons of celebrations with friends.
